Who is this service for?

Many women experience ‘the baby blues’ following the birth of a baby. However, for some women this feeling continues and gets worse and is often accompanied by anxiety, sadness or feelings of being overwhelmed and inadequate. Some women feel that they cannot be a good parent or that their baby does not bond with them and it can be hard to talk about these feelings without feeling others will judge you.

Other women are troubled in pregnancy because they did not intend to become pregnant or they have difficult issues in their relationship or personal life which make it hard to feel happy about becoming a parent.

We offer a safe place to talk about these issues for women living or working in the borough of Barnet and anywhere in North London or surrounding boroughs such as Hertfordshire and Essex. Women of any age travel to us from places such as Tottenham, Enfield, Finchley, Hampstead, Borehamwood, Potters Bar, St Albans and Watford.

How can counselling help?

Counselling can give you support and help to understand what is happening to you and discover why you might be feeling this way. In the case of postnatal depression, it can help you to have a safe and confidential place to explore all your feelings and find ways of becoming the parent you hope to be for your baby.

Counselling for postnatal depression and pregnancy issues

For those struggling with pregnancy issues, we can help you talk about your circumstances and explore your options. Counselling is not an instant ‘fix’ but for some women, a drop-in session may be the first step to thinking about the choices available to you.

Will I have to pay?

All our counselling sessions cost over £35 for us to run and we rely on our fees, donations and fundraising activities as well as some grants to sustain our service. We ask you to pay as much as you can towards the cost. The drop-in service is available for a fee of £5. Please see our Frequently asked questions page for more information about fees.

How do I get to see a counsellor?

If you would like to see a counsellor please fill in the form on the Contact us page of this site or ring us on 020 8440 9144 or text your name and number to 07922 141 392.

You can also attend our drop-in service on a Monday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm (not on bank holidays). If you want to enter regular counselling after this an appointment time will be offered to you.
